Please when givingme the formula, may you please identify what each variable means? Thank you.Answers: 60.0mph, 120mph,......
Car weighs 3510 pounds and when accelerating from rest, covers 0.250 mile in 15.0 seconds.

I have already been given the answers, but I don't know what formula or how to calculate for it. Please when giving me the formula, may you please identify what each variable means? Thank you.

Answers: 60.0mph, 120mph, 11.7ft/sec squared

-
d = 0.5At^2 + Vo*t

Starting from rest Vo = 0 and that term drops out

d = 0.5At^2
0.25 mile = 0.5 * A * 15^2 s
0.25 = 0.5 * 225 * A
0.25 = 112.5 s^2 *A

0.25 mi * 5280 ft/mi = 1320 ft

112.5 A = 1320
A = 11.7 ft/s^2

V = AT
V = 11.7 * 15 = 176 ft/s * 3600 s/hr = 633,600 ft/hr / 5280 ft/mi = 120 mph final speed

0.25 mi/15 sec * 3600 s/hr = 900 mi/hr / 15 sec = 60 mi/hr Avg Speed

That last calc is UGLY Lets do the divide by 15 first

0.25 mi/15 s = 0.0167 mi/sec

0.0167 mi/s * 3600 s/hr = 60 mph
