Is time travel possible?......

Is time travel possible?

-------------------------------------------------------

answers:
Andrew Smith say: Of course. I answered this question yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that and so on for what seems to be an eternity.
So naturally the conclusion is that I am in a time loop. Destined to go back to yesterday every single day to see this same question once more.

What I would like is to get a time machine that would escape this endless repetition and take me forward to a world where people stop asking the question "is time travel possible".

Alas no such machine was invented by yesterday so unless I can somehow get to tomorrow there is no chance of ever reaching a time at which it is invented.
Most unfortunate.

Cole say: We do not know, the technology is simply out of our reach as of now. We are capable of “increasing or decreasing the time it takes for time to pass” by interfering with gravity, though. Also due to time relativity, if time travel is possible it already exists and is being used, however, it is ignorant to assume we would need to rewrite history often. Since we are only able to traverse this dimension forward in time without technology, or brains can’t “run” on multiple timelines. Meaning when time is changed we don’t know, basically like the butterfly effect. If someone from the future were to kill one of your parents, you would be opted out of existence and have no memories what so ever. Now this is where there starts be be problems with religion. How would the afterlife work? It is fair to assume that God would not allow time travel. But if you are non religious, we simply cannot tell. Will the technology ever be accessible? The world may never know...

Jim Moor say: YES.

But probably not like you are thinking.

Orbit in a high gravity well, like around a black hole and you will age MUCH slower than your identical twin. Come back and you might be 21 and them 75! True, no lie!

ANY time you are at a velocity, or around a different gravity, your time passes at a different speed.

Our GPS satellites must have their clocks adjusted because of this effect!

say: No. Think of time like a story. The reader can go forward or backwards in the story, but the characters in the story cannot. The reason is because the reader exists outside of the universe of the story.

With us, we exist inside of our universe. Time will keep marching forward. The only way for us to travel through time is to create a parallel (and inferior) universe. But, do so this, you'd need roughly the same amount of power as this universe to create the parallel universe.

What's worse is that you couldn't really change anything in your universe. The best you could do is gather information, but since the parallel universe isn't yours, something like killing Hitler before he became chancellor would only affect the outcome in the parallel universe.

So, it's unlikely a person would be able to travel through time. If they could, there wouldn't be any real evidence that they were able to in our universe.

Pearl L say: i doubt it or i would be one of the first passengers
-
Stanley say: No its not possible, only in the movies. We can look back in time, we can look 13.7 billion years back in time.
-
dewcoons say: If any kind of practical time travel was possible we would see history being re-written on a daily basis (if not every few seconds.) We may not have discovered how to do it yet, but as soon as someone does they would be popping back to our time, and all other times. That is not happening. So that pretty much shows that any type of practical time travel is impossible.
-
hopefullyhelpful say: I do not think so. If it was ever to be possible, it would already be happening. Sure time travel would start with governments, but eventually the common man would get that technology. There would be a few that willingly and intentionally went back in time to do things so obvious others would see it.

Eddie say: It is possible, there's nothing in nature to actually prevent it, as such
It certainly is mathematically possible

To be put into actual effect though, is nigh on impossible...currently
-
Daniel say: Yes! It's happening now actually. 1 second after i've posted this, i've time travelled forwards. 1 second after you've read this, you've also time travelled forward. See?
-
the black gate opens say: i do not think it is or ever will be, except after we pass on to be with god, then all things will be possible.

Mark say: According to Einsteins Special Relativity, yes, it is possible. However, and this is the problem, travel to the past would not be possible. The reason is clear. The "Grandfather Paradox."

Now. Stop and think about it. If we can only go forward in time, then traveling back to our exact "past self" would be impossible. You would be stuck in the future. You could continue to move forward through time to the end of the universe however, you would never be able to return. This would be a one-way ticket.

Kevin7 say: It might be possible for humans in the future
-
g say: Sure......My old lady says I'm cool cause I pass more time than gas
-
Raghavendran say: It is not impossible.
-
Lord Farquaad say: In theory i guess but you would most likely need some sort of worm hole or a Micro Black hole but their might be a way with The rays that come off a TV like a catalyst Props to whoever got that reference

Totally Dianne. say: Only to the future if we can find a way to travel 99.9% light speed. Then time delation slows down for the space travellers aging process while thousands of years have passed on Earth.
There was an experiment conducted with the Apollo 11 crew that proves this theory. Two atomic clocks were synchronised and when the astronauts returned the clocks were out by milliseconds and that's only because they were travelling relatively slowly at 25,000 miles per HOUR. The speed of light is 186,000 miles per SECOND.

say: Yes. I came back just to answer this question
