I know that the moon efects the tide, but there are two tides per day while the moon only goes around once. Why?

Hi, there is a main tide pulled by the passing moon and a secondary tide which is pulled by the moon on the other side of the earth which is not as strong.

Cycles of the moon my friend.

As the moon gets periodically closer and farther away from certain parts of the globe, the gravity it exerts moves the oceans. The gravity is weaker when the moon is on the other side of the globe.

Pretty interesting too is the fact that the gravity has an effect on people. Especially men, who tend to be more aggressive during a full moon. My father is a cop and every full moon they have about 1-2 more cops on duty for aggressive behavior.
