especially in a weakly capped environment (A weakly capped environment is when you have a layer of stable air that has been preventing strong convection to break through this layer, therefore a cell merger can set of an explosive convection it the it is the first few convective column to break through the cap.......
i've heard meteorologists use this term a lot and i was just wondering what it means and what happens when supercells merge like two supercells does it intensify the storm or does it just make the storm last longer? or both?

Yes, cell mergers are one of the things a weather radar meteorologists must watch closely for because the strong potential of rapid intensification of a thunderstorm. Many times, these intensification will only last a short period of time ( about 30 minutes or less), but in more rarer cases, it may result in a long live severe thunderstorms. especially in a weakly capped environment (A weakly capped environment is when you have a layer of stable air that has been preventing strong convection to break through this layer, therefore a cell merger can set of an explosive convection it the it is the first few convective column to break through the cap.)
