What are your opinions if the soviet union made it to the moon first

They did make it to the moon first with Luna 2, 12 Sept. 1959.

They made the first unmanned landings there. They also landed the first remote controlled rover there. They never did a manned landing. It was considered too expensive and risky after it had already been done.

Since they were competing with the U.S. in the space race, don't you think the whole world would have heard about it, if they did?!?
