While driving home with my mother and sister, we stopped at a light- and there were hardly any cars around. Suddenly, a bright green light shot across the sky- not tail, going really fast- and it just disappeared suddenly. It was amazing, first time I've ever seen something like this. I live in Texas, if that's anything.

It was a meteor, popularly called a "shooting star", although they're nothing to do with stars. Get away from city lights and look at the sky for an hour and you'll see several, at least.
