If the Universe is all there is.. What are we expanding into?

-------------------------------------------------------

answers:
Sanjay say: Nothing !
-
goring say: The Universe as a conservative system cannot expand beyound its constriction.
-
Ronald 7 say: Whatever is Beyond
-
Dixon say: It is expanding inside itself, not into anything. It is "inpanding".
-
aladdinwa say: The universe is expanding into nothing. And, by "nothing" I don't mean just empty space. I mean nothing, as in no space, no dimensions, no height, breadth or depth.

Nothing.
-
BlueNinjaLove say: More universe?

What exists beyond the universe? Surly it must exist inside something? That space can't be there just outside of another space? Or is actual infinity... How did it even get there? Even for those that believe in a deity, well it somehow had to get there too and needed that "place" to exist in, so that place that the universe exists in would have to be there first.

The bad part about human intelligence. We're smart enough to think of these things, but too dumb to wrap our heads around it, but smart enough to know that we can't understand. >.<
-
Jeffrey K say: Why do you assume that it must expand into some outside pre existing space? As far as we know, the distance between two points is just getting larger. Distance is an intrinsic property of space itself. Our space can exist without being embedded in another space.
-
vorenhutz say: It's unnecessary to assume that there is any such thing. It's just expanding.
-
Not say: I don't know, quit asking pointless questions.
-
L. E. Gant say: It's one of the reasons why the steady state theory of the universe (mass and energy being "created" as necessary) was discarded by most cosmologists. Think of the expanding universe as a consequence of the existence of entropy.

Or, maybe, thanks to politics, space has to expand to contain all the B.S. generated.
-
say: into the infinite universe.
-
Acetek say: there is our Universe
then there is the multiverse which is in the brane (membrane)
then the mutiverse which is in the Bulk
our Universe is not expanding into anything
what is the universe expanding into
The short answer is that this is a nonsense question, the Universe isn't expanding into anything, it's just expanding. The definition of the Universe is that it contains everything. If something was outside the Universe, it would also be part of the Universe too.
