I have this take home test and I need some help. The test is on all of the systems of the body and I need help with the multiple choice questions. It would be helpful if you could explain the correct answer. I NEED THE ANSWERS BY TONIGHT PLEASE. Thank you :)

1) What usually results when an organism fails to maintain homeostasis?
A. A constant sugar supply for the cells to produce.
B. The water balance in the tissue of the organism stabilized.
C. Growth rates within organs becomes equal.
D. The organism becomes ill or may die.

2) If the tricuspid value leaks, the blood will back flow into the
A. Right atrium.
B. Left atrium.
C. Right ventricle.
D. Left ventricle.

3) The actual filtering of the blood occurs in the
A. Neuron
B. Nucleus
C. Nephron
D. Bladder

4) The endocrine system differs from the nervous system because the endocrine system
A. Uses chemicals and is quick to respond
B. Uses chemicals and is slow to respond
C. Is fast and uses nerve impulses
D. Is slow to respond, but the response lasts a short time

1 - D. Homeostasis encompasses the processes that the body employs to maintain a constant internal environment e.g. water balance, thermoregulation, solute balance, balance of blood pressure, tissue perfusion etc.etc....the list is exhaustive! A, B and C clearly would occur if the body's internal state were well regulated by homeostasis. Only D would occur if homeostasis failed.

2 - A. The tricuspid valve lies between the right atrium and ventricle. It closes when blood pressure in the R.ventricle is high. If it leaked, blood would trickle back into the R.atrium fro whence it came.

3 - C. The nephron is the functional unit of the kidney. It consists of a knot of microvessels. Blood pressure forces blood plasma along with dissolved soluted into the kidney tubules where it undergoes solute balance.

4 - B. The endocrine system uses blood-borne hormonal signals to effect change in distant regions of the body. Usually hormones produce changes to gene expression in their effector cells. Changing expression of genes is a slow process, requiring the genes to be expressed and made into proteins before the effect is apparent.
