In terms of survival. Or is the ability to see color more of a luxury trait in people?

One of the several reasons as to why we posses eye sight is so that we can spot certain animals/plants that are poisonous. Humans need this as our scent of smell is very poor (relative) so we cannot smell the more fine things and therefore humans being able to see our visible spectrum is necessary to survival.
