edit:yeah.Markovnikov addition has nothing to do with HX and the nucleophilic addition of a halogen and a proton, despite the double bond.-They both involve addition of X2 to a double bond. Its just that X2 is H2 in one case and maybe Cl2 or Br2 in the other. Pay no attention to protons or SN2.......

Both are typically SN2, and both typically result in the addition of a nucleophile and a proton.
