A universal indicator is cool because it is calibrated in such a way that gives you a really close approximation of the pH of the substance. Two acids could have the same concentration but different strength meaning that even though their concentrations are equal, the way they dissociate into H3O+ is different. So their respective pH values will be different which would be easy to tell distinguish with a universal indicator.
