How can I tell if a substance is radioactive

........
Lets say i bought iodine in the mail and it was irradiated so the iodine is now irradiated and can hurt the thyroid instead of helping. How can I tell if the iodine is radioactive? Are there any simple tests? Thanks.

Simple tests, no. You need a Geiger counter.
But the chances of iodine being irradiated in the mail enough to cause radioactive iodine is vanishingly small. The mail processing people would be dropping like flies and you'd certainly hear about that on the news.

if you touch it and your hair falls out...its radioactive..oh and really painful!! dont even try. oh btw DO NOT expose it to coke products or you will get hurt in an unpredictable way.....
