Explain to me the basics of the periodic table

protons are located in an atom, how to find noble gases, metals, nonmetals, metalloids, what the difference between those are,......
It's already almost the end of the school year, and i'm still so confused about the periodic table! can you give me the basics of the periodic table like, where the neutrons, electrons, protons are located in an atom, how to find noble gases, metals, nonmetals, metalloids, what the difference between those are, and stuff like that? i need help or im gonna fail!

- neutrons (neutral charge) and protons (+ charge) are in the nucleus.
- electrons (- charge) orbit around the nucleus.
- there is the same amount of electrons as there is protons to balance the charge.
- noble gases are located in group 8 (the far right column), these elements have a full outer shell of electrons.
- every group (column) has the same amount of electrons in the valance (outer) shell.
- every period (row) has the same amount of orbitals - these are what the electrons go around. the number of orbitals correspond to the number of the period (ie. first row, period 1, has one orbital)
- metalliods are: boron (B), silicon (Si), germanium (Ge), arsenic (As), antimony (Sb), tellurium (Te), polonium (Po) and astatine (At). Look at a periodic table and take notice of how they "staircase" down the table, this will help you remember where they are.
- metalliods have non-metal and metal properties
- non-metals are on the right side of the metalliods
- metals on the left.
- non-metals gain or share their valence electrons easily, which means they're more electronegative. they're brittle (break easily) are poor conductors of electricity and heat, aren't ductile, and at room temperature can be a solid, liqid or gas.
- metals are the complete opposite and are only a solid at room temp.
- as stated before, metalliods can have properties from both.
