we can choose any country for our portfolio. i have to locate, read and summarize 5 news articles pertaining my country...that demonstrates the importance of geography. god help me. i dont even know what that means.

Japan would be an easy choice. The country's geography played a big role in the devestation Japan experience due to the earthquake/tsunami a few months ago. Examples:
- Ancient Japanese placed stones along the coast to mark where tsunami water levels had reached hundreds of years ago. These stones were ignored by modern Japanese who built structures at lower altitudes.
- The country's location along the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific Ocean, site of most of the world's earthquake and volcanic activity
- The Nuclear power plants were located (in hindsight) too near the ocean, allowing them to be flooded
- Unrelated to disasters is the tension with North Korea which lies near Japan
