Explain what happens when you multiply or divide a number by -1?? HELP, math.

g.( I personally thought you would get zero but a bit research on google as proven otherwise.)-when you want to figure out why a mathematical function works the way it does, say it in words that always works for me.such as 1*-1 = -1 you can say if i have -1 values of 1 what does that equal? well -1 of course!......
Please explain step by step. I don't know how to do it. I just need to understand what they want us to do. 10 points for best helpful answer. Thanks!!!

All it does is turn the other number negative.

For example:
3x(-1)= -3
3/(-1)= -3

-
MULTIPLYING:
If you multiply a positive number by -1 it becomes negative.
e.g. -1 x 2 = -2
It is the same as normal multiplying but with a -

If you multiply a negative number by -1 it becomes positive.
e.g. -1 x -2 = 2
Multiplying two negatives makes a positive number.

DIVIDING:
When you divide a positive number by a negative number it becomes it becomes negative.
e.g. 2 / -1 = -1

When you divide a negative number by a negative number you get a positive number.
e.g. -2 / -1 = 1
( I personally thought you would get zero but a bit research on google as proven otherwise.)

when you want to figure out why a mathematical function works the way it does, say it in words that always works for me. such as 1*-1 = -1 you can say if i have -1 values of 1 what does that equal? well -1 of course!

the basic rule for dividing or multiplying by -1 is that it is always the negative version of that number

2*-1 = -2
2/-1 = -2
or
-2*-1 = 2
-2/-1 = 2

-
(-1)(n) = -n and n/(-1) = -n
You get the same answer.
Why?
I could say these are properties which is true
and as properties are accepted as fact.
Mathematics begins with some assumed facts to build on.
It has nothing to do with the (-1) or the (n) or multiplication or division individually.
Or the equal sign.
There are rigorous and elaborate proofs for this but they are studied by mathematicians into absurdity. In college I studied 1 + 1 = 2 for weeks. Yikes!

it means you're negating the number. if it's already negative, it turns positive. if it's positive, it becomes negative. when you multiply or divide a number by -1 you're turning it into its opposite( that's what negating means).
6(-1)=-6
-9(-1)=9

-
Multiplying or dividing a number or group of numbers by -1 is the same as changing the sign of that number or group, it's that simple. But "change the sign" is not really a mathematical operation. Multiplying buy -1 is.

If you divide a negative by a negative it's positive so say you did. -50x-1 it equals 50
but if you did 50x-1 it's -50
Same thing with dividing
50\-1=-50 but -50\-1=50
hope I helped :)
