im not sure what to do? my basement gets flooded very easily, even when we have light rain showers. i have one window in my basement. also, my living room is surrounded by trees,......
i live in pennsylvania, irene is suppose to hit us on it's way to new york. 270,000 evacuations were ordered near new york, & around the shores. it's suppose to be a very bad storm. they said it will hit here around saturday night to all day sunday. i'm not sure what to do? my basement gets flooded very easily, even when we have light rain showers. i have one window in my basement. also, my living room is surrounded by trees, & has two windows. all the other places in my house has tons of windows. my bedroom is also surrounded by trees. do you think a tree will fall on my house? where should i sleep? what emergancy supplies should i pack? should i pack emergancy supplies? what happens if it gets 12 inch flooding around my house? if a tree falls onto my house with two floors would the tree fall all the way down to the first floor?

It depends how strong the hurricane will be. If strong enough, it might uproot several trees. I can't say where they'll land because you can't tell right now. Anyway, pack a bag with tons of water, medicine if you need it, non fridge food, blankets, money, and plane tickets (if you plan on flying to a different state for your evacuation). Make sure there are enough supplies (and extra clothes) for you and your entire family. Don't forget any pets you might have. Of your basement floods, I don't recommend sleeping there. You shouldn't sleep too high up during a hurricane either. If there is a foot of flooding around your house, it might leak it, it might now. It all depends how strong the winds, waters, and hurricane in general is by the time it reaches your home. Make sure your phone is fulyl charged, and make sure you have a portable radio, since power is most likely to be out. Best of luck!

it depends if u live on shore

well it seems you've answered your own questions. Fix the window to the basement, cmon you basement shouldn't have to flood, and if need be do some trimming on the trees if your that paranoid. Otherwise, buy a propane tank or 2, get canned food, stock up on other necessities or items, and prepare for a big storm. Nothing outlandish, god damn white suburbians, but enough stuff to last you 2-3 days which you should already have in your home.

I live in oklahoma, i have to deal with tornadoes all the time, quite whining about a storm that has to cover a lot of land to get to you,

Ok so first get all your favorite and electronical belongings in a zip lock bag. Keep flashlights and food and water in a container and keep that with you. Try to board up the windows but if you can't just make sure when it hits you stay in a safe place. I reccomend a closet with no windows. The basement might get flooded but its either that or your saftey :) Depending on how big the tree's are, yes they could crash to the 1st floor. Its probably most likley a tree will fall since we are supposed to get lots of dammage. Make sure your cell phone is fully charged so you can call friends and family and make sure their okay!
