1) Approximately (not EXACTLY equal to, but really close)

2) "if and only if"

The first one means "approximately". I don't know the second one.

EDIT: I found the second one on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mat… And the others are right about the second one. I forgot that logic was technically a kind of math.

≈ means "is approximately equal to"
π ≈ 3.14159

<==> means "is equivalent to". a <==> b means that a implies b and that b implies a. For example

Triangle ABC is a right triangle <==> AB^2 + BC^2 = AC^2

the first one is approximately = to the other is from logical math meaning logically = to ....hope this helps!
