Can someone walk me through this Chemistry problems please?? 10 Points!!!!!

nitride reacts with water. Li3N+ 3 H2O → NH3 + 3 LiO-Well, you have the equation balanced, thats the first step. Next you need to find how many moles of each input chemical you have - so you need their molar masses. For the lithium nitrate thats 34.......
I really don't know how to do this, and i think if someone walks me through one i'll get a better understanding of it.It's a Stochiometry/limiting reagent problem. Please and Thank you!
Determine the mass of lithium hydroxide produced when 0.38 g of lithium
nitride reacts with water. Li3N + 3 H2O → NH3 + 3 LiO

Well, you have the equation balanced, that's the first step. Next you need to find how many moles of each input chemical you have - so you need their molar masses. For the lithium nitrate that's 34.83 g/mol (take the molar mass of lithium, multiply by 3, and add to the molar mass of nitrogen) and for water that's 18.02 g/mol. Assuming you have enough water to go to completion, or put another way, that your lithium nitride is the limiting reagent, you divide the mass of lithium nitride by its molar mass to get the number of moles.

Looking at the equation, you should be able to see that for every one mole of lithium nitride, you need 3 moles of water, and you produce 1 mole of ammonia and 3 moles of lithium hydroxide. After you have the number of moles of lithium nitride, you multiply by 3 to find the number of moles of lithium hydroxide. To get grams, simply multiply the number of moles by the LiOH g/mol value of 23.95 g/mol, and this should give you the number of grams you produce.

you R not balanced!!!!

Well, to talk about limiting reagent.....you need to be given both Li3N and H20 amounts to determine which is truly limiting.

0.38 gram of lithium nitride.....1 mole lithium nitride/ xxx grams lithium nitride.......3 mole lithium oxide/2mole lithium nitride........xxxx gram lithium oxide/ 1 mole lithium oxide

first find the xxx by adding masses elements in molecule ( ie 44g CO2====> 12 C 32 O)

your eq needs to change Li2O not LiO

balance the eq.....

LiO is lithium oxide LiOH is lithium hydroxide....... if that is the case my equation was found for a balanced lithium oxide
