Should I become a mathematician

but I really do not like writing down a bunch of repetitive equations over and over again, or spending time making graphs. I'm a sophomore in high school. I'm in pre-calulus. I really enjoy math theory, and I love math itself, in the abstract, but I really do not like writing down a bunch of repetitive equations over and over again, or spending time making graphs. Like when I have to, for example, multiply/divide/add/subtract basic complex numbers for 50 problems in a row, or when I have to solve and then graph 20 different quadratic/cubic/quartic etc. functions, it gets boring really quick. I'd really enjoy using those things sometimes to actually solve more complex problems, but when all I'm doing is endlessly doing something that I know how to do over and over again, I get bored. And like I said, I really do love thinking about math and theorizing what I can with my currently limited knowledge. So do you think I should become a mathematician?

At the college level mathematics becomes more interesting especially if you are interested in the theory. At this level equations tend to disappear and get replaced with proofs. However, as with everything, repetition has the goal of driving in concepts and techniques it builds dexterity and skill in solving problems--there is no other way of learning mathematics other than by doing it and solving lots and lots of problems.
From what you describe it sounds like you really enjoy doing math and that is the first step--a necessary condition--to be successful in studying mathematics. I would advise to also think about what do you really like about mathematics that is what field? I know you probably do not have enough exposure to different areas of mathematics and so I recommend may be talking to your teacher.
My advice to anyone who asks what should they study is "follow your passion". If you are passionate about mathematics go for it.
Good luck and I wish you success in whatever you decide to study.

YES,you sound like a stud student this will really stand out in your college application!!

Why are you asking us what your destiny should be? If you like what you do then do it...
