1. What is the end behavior of the following quadratic function?
f(x) = - 3x^2 + 18x + 20

2. Solve the following inequality.
x^2 - 11x + 24 ≤ 0

a) 3 ≤ x ≤ 8
b) x ≤ 3 or x ≥ 8
c) x ≤ -8 or x ≥ -3
d) -8 ≤ x ≤ -3

-
x^2 - 11x + 24 ≤ 0
(x-8)(x-3)<=0
3<=x<=8
Answer a)

I'm not bothering with the site's answers I'll just tell you (both) how to work this out.

1) They're asking for the limit as the f(x) approaches infinity and negative infinity. End behavior is determined by the term with the highest order variable, in this case, focus on the -3x^2 (everything else will be so small in comparison that it can be ignored). Therefore, in the term -3x^2, as x goes to infinity, f(x) gets infinitely small. As x goes to negative infinity, f(x) also gets infinitely small (negative squared is positive, positive squared is positive). The answer is that the end behavior on both ends of the function is that :

lim as f(x) goes to -infinity, infinity, = -infinity

2) a, since the function is greater than 0 to the left of 3 and to the right of 8.
