Percentage increase between two numbers

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-12-29] [Hit: ]
2 - 6.5 = 0.7Percentage increase = (Increase in wage / Initial wage) x 100 = (0.7 / 6.5) x 100 = 10.77 %-To work out percentage increase you must firstly find the difference between the two wages:£7.......
I'm having a little bit of trouble with some home work and I've looked on the internet to try and find out how to do this but have not been successful.
The question is worth 4 marks and the question is:
-Gareth hourly wage increases from £6.50 to £7.20
Work out the percentage increase in his wage
Give your answer to an appropriate degree of accuracy

If you know how to work this out please inform me with step by step working out
Thanks :)

Initially wage rate was = 6.5
Finally wage rate became = 7.2
Difference between the wages = Increase in wage = Final - initial = 7.2 - 6.5 = 0.7
Percentage increase = (Increase in wage / Initial wage) x 100
= (0.7 / 6.5) x 100 = 10.77 %

To work out percentage increase you must firstly find the difference between the two wages:

£7.20 - £6.50 = £0.70

Now to work this out as a percentage you use this format:
(Difference divided by Original value) x 100%

So...

(£0.70 / £6.50) x 100% = 10.769...%

To an appropriate degree of accuracy would probably be around 10.77% (as there are 2 decimal places in the question)

Hope that helps!

Strictly speaking,
percentage increase = difference / original amount
so difference being 7.20 - 6.50 gives us 0.70
percentage increase = 0.70 / 6.50 (since 6.50 is original amount)
The answer is 0.10769... which is 10.769%. Accuracy depends on the starting numbers, both of which appear to be to the nearest tenth. Hence you can put 10% (or maybe 11%)

Find the difference between the two number, which is 0.70p.
Take the smaller value £6.50
Convert to pence and multiplly by 100
Hence
70/650 x 100 = 10.769230769230769230769230769231%
To two decimal places 10.77%
