My Daughter having problem with this how to explain

Then you would take 1/2(-2) which is -1. So rewrite the equation 2 - -1 and because there are double negatives you change the subtraction to addition and change the negative one to positive one.what is inside it.Two minus multiplied by each other always become PLUS.So: - 1/2 times -2 is 1.Finished: Now it sais: 6/3+ 1 = 1 6/3 which is the same as 3.......
2/3 (y) - 1/2(x) =? When x= -2 and y= 3. She just started math grade 10 but not understanding teacher. Whats is easy way to explain this problem. Thank to all

-
2/3(y) - 1/2(x)
2/3(3) - 1/2(-2) = 2*3/3 + 1*2/2 = 2 + 1 = 3

The first term is two thirds of three is two
The second term is half of two which is one.
As to the minus by minus being plus, I regret to say I can suggest little that will convince her other than that she must remember this.

If the problem looks like 2/3y - 1/2x I think I know what you are talking about. When the variable (letter) is attached to a number (in this case a fraction) you would multiply those numbers. So it would be 2/3(3) which equals 2. Then you would take 1/2(-2) which is -1. So rewrite the equation 2 - -1 and because there are double negatives you change the subtraction to addition and change the negative one to positive one. 2 + 1 = 3

A bracket means that you multiply the number before the bracket by
what is inside it.
So if y is 3 it means she should multiply 2/3 by 3 = 6/3

And if x is -2 she multiplies -1/2 by -2
Two minus multiplied by each other always become PLUS.
So: - 1/2 times -2 is 1.

Finished: Now it sais: 6/3 + 1 = 1 6/3 which is the same as 3.

I DO hope I did not make any mistakes here...

2/3 (y) - 1/2(x) =? when x = -2 and y = 3

All you have to do is sub in your values of x and y into the equation

2/3(3) - 1/2(-2)

= 2 - (-1) = 3

so your answer is 3

-
2y/3 = 2 when y = 3
-x/2 = +1 when x = - 2
2 + 1 = 3 (answer)

"my daughter" um yeah right
