Subtracting Polynomials problem

The problem look like this 3(x-6)-4(x^2+2x-3)
x^2 means x to the second power
really need help on this, i cant understand it..thank you:)

3(x-6)=3x-18
4(x^2+2x-3)=4x^2+8x-12

3(x-6)-4(x^2+2x-3)=3x-18-(4x^2+8x-12)
=3x-18-4x^2-8x+12
=-4x^2-5x-6
