Just wondering if it is illegal for a doctor to do this, since patients can experience severe withdrawal symptoms and revert back to experiencing their original illness. Is it illegal and inhumane?

The legal term is "patient abandonment". No law against it, but it makes a great basis for a malpractice lawsuit.

Best wishes.

Since all doctors take an oath which includes "...do no harm," I would think that it is totally unethical for a doctor to withhold a prescription because of non-payment of the bill. Whether it is illegal, I do not know. But it is definitely unethical for a doctor to do this!

meds need to be in the system awhile to work right. to hold them hostage because you did not pay a bill is nutts.. I doubt they will do that... doc bills are not the same as pharmacy bills.. you got the cash, you get the meds..
