PHYSICS: need help with homework question

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-06-21] [Hit: ]
I think i may know how to answer it, just not 100% sure. Thanks in advance, and this question is no joke! =3-The horizontal component of the force is the portion contributing to work.f = 1300/250 = 5.......
Would someone please be able to provide the steps in solving this question? The questions goes as follows: Paris Hilton does 1300J of work as she pulls on her dogs leash at an angle of 43 degrees while she walks 250m in high heels. What force does she pull on the leash with?

The horizontal component of the force is the portion contributing to work.
So f * d = 1300
f * 250 = 1300
f = 1300/250 = 5.2 N

But this is only the horizontal component.
To get the total force we know that f(hor) = F * sin(theta)
so F = f(hor) / sin(theta)
= 5.2 / sin(43deg)
= 7.6 N

This is the tension in the leash. (until she trips over those high heels)

Force F available to pull dogs in horizontal direction = T*sin(43deg) = 0.68T where T = tension in the leash. Let s = distance she drags the dogs = 250m

So work Ms. Hilton does is W = F*s = 1300J or F = W/s = 1300J/250m = 5.2N
and therefore T = 5.2N/0.68 = 7.65N.
