Chicken egg filled with blood

There was no trace of egg, it was completely blood and it was like something out of a Stephen King movie! There is no possible way that the egg was fertilized; I do not have a rooster and my hens have never been in contact with a rooster, so what the hell happened? I have read that it sometimes happens at the end of the beginning of a laying cycle, is that true?......
I have my own chickens and get all of my eggs from them and today I was cracking an egg into the frying pan and the entire egg was just filled with blood and poured out into the pan. There was no trace of egg, it was completely blood and it was like something out of a Stephen King movie! There is no possible way that the egg was fertilized; I do not have a rooster and my hens have never been in contact with a rooster, so what the hell happened? I have read that it sometimes happens at the end of the beginning of a laying cycle, is that true? I'm completely freaked out and worried about my hens now.

Strange you should ask, as it happened to me a few weeks ago when baking a cake. It was like a Stephen King movie! The whole thing was red. I didn't look closely enough to see if there was a yolk. But a bit of investigation at the time told me that it is to do with blood vessels in the oviduct of the hen. Occasionally they rupture (and I imagine they are self healing?). This is fairly common and can cause just a few patches of blood on the yolk to the entire egg being bloody (of course it's not all blood, it's a mixture of blood and albumen and no doubt yolk). Anyway, my little incident has pushed me much closer to giving up on eggs entirely as I already struggle with the yuck factor.

I don't suppose you can narrow it down to which hen laid that egg. You'll just have to keep a close eye on them all. If they appear happy and are still able to lay, hopefully that means there's no problem, although yours must be going off the lay at this time of year (?). And crack your eggs into a cup first before mixing or using them.

It is a sign that the world is ending. Next the moon will turn to blood and we're all gonna die.
