If the earth were 10 percent larger -?
If the earth were 10 percent larger -

A person would weigh more
Places on the Earth would be separated by a larger distance

Socially this would be a faux pas ....
Sociologically a disaster .....

So should we be pleased with the size of the Earth ?

answers:
CarolOklaNola say: If Earth were was 10% larger, Earth would be more massive and we would weigh more, but we would have evolved to fit into the ecological niches of THAT Earth. We would NOT be AWARE that anything had changed. Our bodies might have evolved a higher average brain volume than we currently have. Society and civilization may have developed have developed differently.

HOW could that possibly be a social faux pas? That is a ridiculous totally illogical statement based on fictional, make believe premise.

Are you one of the Bishop Usher chronology fanatics that insists Earth is only 6400 years old? Then you should move this question to R&S.

roberto say: evolutions' path under differing gravity /mass conditions is intriguing,
we'd be shorter, more muscular, wider, b/c muscle/tendon stress on bones causes more cells to form
-
Jeffrey K say: I don't think a different size would make much of a difference in our daily lives. And we would be used to that size.
-
Adullah M say: But what I see many Empires of the world wanted to expand more land every 10 percent for a decade.
-
busterwasmycat say: What do you mean by larger? More mass, more volume, bigger radius, what? The earth could be larger in volume and in mass, without there being any difference in force of gravity at the surface (would require a very particular set of mass and volumes, of course). Everything else is simply a case of "we would see what is as normal" and we would wonder "what if the earth were only the size of (what this earth actually is)". So what if far away is a bit farther away than it is now? It is still far away.

PhotonX say: I think maybe you don't understand what "faux pas" means.
.
Actually I'm getting to the age that a bit less gravity would be welcome. That's where living on a decent revolver space station would be.nice--different levels would have different 'gravities'.

droidrearangementscene say: Assuming density is maintained, and it was always that way, it probably wouldn't be that big a deal tbh. That being said, if today's earth suddenly increased in size by 10% there would be mass hysteria, trees dying, animals collapsing, satellites falling from the sky....it wouldn't be pleasant let's leave it at that.

Mr. Smartypants say: If the earth were 10 percent larger, we would have evolved (or been designed--the argument works either way!) to handle the extra weight. We'd have to fly a tiny bit longer to visit our relatives in Cincinnati. And real estate would be very slightly cheaper.
