Who is to say what is the bottom of the Earth when we are moving in seven different directions and that doesnt include what you doing now?......

Who is to say what is the bottom of the Earth when we are moving in seven different directions and that doesn't include what you doing now?

Ronald 7 say: It is merely a Geographical Location
Like the North Pole being at the Top
If you were behind a Clock Face somehow
Its hands would be turning Anti Clockwise
There have been Exhaustive Studies but no East or West Poles have been found

quantumclaustrophobe say: I am. I'm the one who says. And, I say the 'bottom' is Antarctica, because that's what everyone's agreed to, and we're really only moving in one direction at a time, but it's not a straight course.

Please make a note of it.

poldi2 say: The bottom of the Earth would be the center of the Earth since down is towards the center of gravity.
-
ob1knob say: Define "bottom of the Earth".

If you logically define "bottom" as the place that is "under" any other part of Earth according to local Earth gravitational field, the center of Earth meets the definition.

But you might think of other definitions:
- the deepest ocean bed? answer: Marianas Trench
- the bottom of a north-oriented map of the World? answer: the South Pole in Antarctica.

Choose a bloody best answer. It's not hard. say: That's just weird. Let's pretend, just for a lark, that other people don't actually know what you mean. Read that aloud to yourself and see what you think.

CarolOklaNola say: If Earth did not exist, what are you going to use as your reference point for a coordinate system? If you use yourself, that makes sense only to YOU, not to anyone else.

Did you get an "F" on an assignment because you forgot to put a north arrow on your map? Do you get lost on your way to the toilet?

Most of the time what is at the bottom of the Earth is irrelevant.

Nyx say: You mean Antarctica? Why not write to some of the people that are stationed there.

Starrysky say: Try another question--and one that makes some sense. "Bottom of the Earth"? "Seven different directions"? Never heard of those in the 65 years that I have been studying Astronomy (1954-63 grade school, 1959-present amateur Astronomy, 1969-80 staff member at a planetarium).
