Primordial Soup assignment

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-06-07] [Hit: ]
the Earth is ~4.5 billion years old.The first form of life is theorized to have formed ~3.6-3.8 billion years ago.Meaning there was a period of time of ~1 billion years.......
So it is extra credit for my Biology class to create a primordial soup model. I have to take a can of soup and wrap a label around it with writing on it. It is supposed to be like an actual soup, and say something like 'Microwave on high for 2 million years, and then let cool for another 2 million years.' Something like that. Any other ideas? Does 2 million years sound right for those, or should it be longer or shorter? Any ideas for the name of the soup, either?

Haha interesting assignment.

Mmmm, for the length of time it is hard to say. But keep this in mind, the Earth is ~4.5 billion years old. The first form of life is theorized to have formed ~3.6-3.8 billion years ago. Meaning there was a period of time of ~1 billion years. With no life on it.

It is not known how long this primordial soup was present - But most likely it would be MUCH greater than 2 million years.

What I would do for this assignment would be.
Heat soup for 1 billion years - But as time progresses lower the heat - lol an analogy to an oven?

As the earth was extremely hot and hostile at that time and it was the cool that settled into a "cooler" place.

That's what I got off the top of my head - you can refer to this wiki page for info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of…

Oh and a Name.. hmm... Origin Onion Soup :) haha - Sounds nice - although no onions are present
