Atheists, Is Philosophy Dead

Please justify your answer-Why the hell is this in biology?-No, philosophy is NOT dead. Science IS philosophy in that it is trying to make sense of the observed world. They are not mutually exclusive. You are splitting,......
I am struggling a little with this. So here is my take on it so far:
Philosophy is primary focused on language. Metaphysics, for example is defined as knowledge of the world (or something like that). Science is the empirical observation on how the world works. So, for me science is far more plausible in studying than anything other than empirical observation. I inevitably conclude since science is the best way to explain the world then philosophy is useless. However, I cant help but be attracted to philosophy in the way in shapes our world view. We can define words like courage and love (which is I think is relative like morality). Scientist are of course inevitably trapped by this relativity. So, my question is if pursuing a science major is far more worth it than a philosophy major? Please justify your answer

No, philosophy is NOT dead. Science IS philosophy in that it is trying to make sense of the observed world. They are not mutually exclusive. You are "splitting," which in psychological parlance means that you are taking an either/or stance. The Universe isn't so "black and white."

Philosophy is NOT primarily "focused on language." True Philosophy is based on logic, and attempts to make a logical conclusion out of the seemingly irrational. Scientists often do the same thing when confronted with an "anomaly," something that doesn't fit with a model. Anomalies happen very often in physics and astronomy, where direct observation and experimentation are impossible - black holes, for instance. Scientists and philosophers operate under the same assumption: that the Universe is understandable and logical; just because we don't understand a given phenomenon, doesn't mean that it will never be understood.

You sound like one of those people who like to have your info cut and dried, you want irrefutable physical proof that something is the way it is, rather than have to reconcile the evidence and possible exceptions to observations. No less a philosophical luminary than Socrates, (of whom I am a great admirer) FAILED to define what "courage" really is. Read "Laches" in Plato's "Collected Dialogues." Socrates always held that unless one could define a word or concept, one could not claim to know anything about it.
