DNA self-replication question: separating and replicating base pairs. Help please?!

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-09-28] [Hit: ]
Separate the strands and replicate them, identifying which strands are original and which are the new complementary strands.Help please! I understand the dynamic of base pairs, such as G pairing with C, and T obviously pairing with A.......
T-A-C-G-G-C-A-A-C-T-G-A-G-C-T

A-T-G-C-C-G-T-T-G-A-C-T-C-G-A

"Practice DNA replication. Consider this double stranded DNA molecule. Notice that the DNA bases are paired accordingly. Separate the strands and replicate them, identifying which strands are original and which are the new complementary strands."

Help please! I understand the dynamic of base pairs, such as G pairing with C, and T obviously pairing with A. But I just don't understand where in the bases I am supposed to "separate and replicate them"
If there's anyone that can answer this question I would be most appreciative :) I am incredibly desperate and getting frustrated right now. Thank you all!

The 2 strands you have written are paired together as one double strand. To replicate, the double strand separates into 2 single strands, and each one serves as a guide or template for the other strand. In the end you wind up with 2 of exactly what you started with. Can't do color here, but color the original strand black and the new strand blue.

Make this strand black: T-A-C-G-G-C-A-A-C-T-G-A-G-C-T

Make this strand blue: A-T-G-C-C-G-T-T-G-A-C-T-C-G-A

Make the colors opposite for the other pair...

Make this strand blue: T-A-C-G-G-C-A-A-C-T-G-A-G-C-T

Make this strand black: A-T-G-C-C-G-T-T-G-A-C-T-C-G-A
