Questions about Organic Chemistry

It is a lot of memorizing.Much of it will be memorizing what happens when you mix A and B.You will also learn nomenclature and drawing structures from its name, which is really quick and easy to pick up on, soon it will be no problem.Mechanisms for a reaction (how electrons move during the reaction) will also be used a fair amount.......
I am enrolled in Organic Chemistry at Virginia Tech this Fall. I've read some horror stories online about O-Chem, but no one ever says why it is hard. All I see are things like:

"OMG O CHEM IS SOO HARD LIKE YEAH. I ALMOST FAILED IT BUT I GOT A C"
"Organic Chem is your Pre-Med weed out course. You will have to work harder than you ever have in your life."
"My O-Chem class was so hard that a 40% on a test was a B. Biggest curve EVER."

No one ever says why. Why is Organic Chemistry such a terror for students?

Please give me some examples of things I have to look forward to in Organic Chem I and II.

Organic Chemistry really isn't all that difficult. Especially if your just taking O-Chem 1 and 2. It is a lot of memorizing. Much of it will be memorizing what happens when you mix A and B. You will also learn nomenclature and drawing structures from its name, which is really quick and easy to pick up on, soon it will be no problem. Mechanisms for a reaction (how electrons move during the reaction) will also be used a fair amount. You professor might want you to memorize some numbers, like bond enthalpies and stuff but that stuff is really trivial. You will also need to derive structural formulas from NMR Spectroscopy which again isn't too difficult.

Reason why many people say it is difficult is because of the shear volume of material that you will learn. Just study a lot and get good at memorizing and you will do just fine.

just start from the basics i.e nomenclature...if u get it ..then move on to the mechanism of reaction..ie how a reaction is occuring......reactions do not occur at instance.they occur slowly slowly....so the slowest path determine the rate of reaction....so u shld frst learn the basics
