BaSO4 is insoluble in the presence of HCl and will visibly precipitate out as a solid, and therefore the presence of sulphates can be determined.-obv b) since BaSO4 is insol..but wotabt CaCl2?!......
Tammy decided to test for sulphate ions.
She added dilute hydrochloric acid to another portion of the solution.

Which reagent should Tammy add to this mixture to show the presence of sulphate ions?

a) ammonia solution
b) barium chloride solution

B. When barium chloride BaCl2 is added, the barium will react with the sulphate ions to form barium sulphate BaSO4. BaSO4 is insoluble in the presence of HCl and will visibly precipitate out as a solid, and therefore the presence of sulphates can be determined.
