Why does Platinum cause a gas burner to catch fire? I have read mixed answers online about this, does anyone know why?

Platinum is a very good Catalyst apparatus which means depending on the Temperature of the platinum and specific hydrocarbon(fuel) or chemical you expose it to it will cause a chemical reaction like fire or sometimes just a lot of heat which in chemistry is a...chemical reaction, hope that helps
