2] benzaldehyde on treatment with NaOH followed by acid hydrolysis gives b&c b on oxidation gives benzaldehyde what are b&c

2. When Benzaldehyde reacts with NaOH - Cannizaro rn takes place and gives benzyl alcohol and benzoic acid

so b should be benzil alcohol where as it gives benzaldehide with oxygenation.

1)Perkin’s reaction. When benzaldehyde is heated with the anhydride of an aliphatic acid containing two alpha hydrogen atoms , in presence of its sodium salt it forms unsaturated acid e.g
C6H5CHO + (CH3CO)2 O ----------CH3 COONa---------> C6H5CH=CHCOOH
Benzaldehyde + Acetic anhydride --------------------------------- > Cinnamic acid

2) 2C6H5CHO + NaOH ---------------> C6H5CH2OH + C6H5COONa
Benzaldehyde + (50%) ---------------> Benzylalcohol + Sodium benzoate
