Multiplying the second equation by 2 we have
-6x+8y=0------------>equation 3

Subtracting equation 3 from equation 1 we have
x+8y=14
6x-8y=0
----------------
7x=14
or, x=2

Putting x=2 in equation 1we have
2+8y=14
or, 8y=14-2
or, 8y=12
or, y=12/8
or, y=1.5

Therefore, the required solution is x=2 and y=1.5
