How do you work out 4x+7=10x-11

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-05-30] [Hit: ]
Seems a bit redundant for this, though.......
What's the answer to 4x+7=10x-11?
I've tried it like 10 times and i don't seem to be getting the right answer! Please Help!

Subtract 7 from both sides:

4x = 10x - 18

Subtract 10x from both sides:

-6x = -18

Divide by -6:

x = 18/6 = 3

Another way to solve this would be by using graphs; graphing y = 4x + 7 and y = 10x - 11 in the same plane would allow you to find where the lines cross, thus giving you the answer. Seems a bit redundant for this, though.

-
4x + 7 = 10x - 11
18 = 6x
3 = x

-
4x - 10x = -11 - 7

→ -6x = -18

→ x = 3

-
18 = 6x
x = 3

-
Answer x=3

-
4x-10x =-6x
-11-7= -18
-6x=18
x=3

-
4x-10x
=-6x
-11-7
= -18
-6x
=18
x=3
