When You See "/" This Means It's A Fraction

in general multiply the entire eqaution by the common denominator when fractions are present to simplify the equation. For example, your first problem can be done as follows

2/3x + 1 = 27

2x + 3 = 81

2x = 78

x = 39

Yes. It also means divide- a fraction means the same thing as dividing by that number. e.g. 2/3 (two thirds) has the same meaning as two divided by three.

2/3x + 1 = 27 [subtract 1 from each side]
2/3x = 26 [multiply each side by 3]
