im having dificulty with this chapter and i am not understandingg :(
please can u explain step by step of how to do this!!

question : expand and simplify
4(2x-3)+5(x+1)

the one that helped me the most gets best answer

thank u in advance

-
4(2x - 3) + 5(x + 1)
= 4(2x) + 4(-3) + 5(x) + 5(1) {used distributive property}
= 8x - 12 + 5x + 5 {multiplied through}
= 13x - 7 {combined like terms}

-
Distributive property: x(a + b) = ax + bx
In other words, multiply the outside number to each term on the inside of the group.

4(2x - 3) + 5(x + 1) (distribute 4 and 5 to their groups)
8x - 12 + 5x + 5 (combine like terms)
13x - 7 <===ANSWER

-
Multiply every inside the parenthesis by the number in front of it
8x - 12 + 5x + 5
Put together like terms.
13x - 7
you're done!

-
4(2x-3)+5(x+1)
= (4*2x - 4*3) + (5*x + 5*1)
= (8x - 12) + (5x + 5)
= 8x - 12 + 5x + 5
= (8x + 5x) + (-12 + 5)
= 13x - 7

-
Just use distributive property.

Answer: 8x-12+5x+1=13x-11
