I need help with equations?? (Math)?
Is the given number a solution of the equation?
14.) 13 - d = 8:5
15.) c = 2c - 4;8
16.) Write an equation. Is the given value a solution?
A farmer sees 56 of his cows out of the barn. He knows that he has 85 cows altogether. Let c represent the number of cows still in the barn. Are there 33 cows still in the barn?

Solve the equation.
17. a + 3 = 10
18. a - 4 = 12
19. y - 5 = -8
20. y + (-6) = -9
22. 8,000g = 48,000
23. -7b = 21
24. w/9 = 6
25. -5 = c/7
Please answer all of these.. Thanks

14. yes
15. no
16.
17. a = 7
18. a = 16
19.y = -3
20.y = -3
22. g = 6
23. b = -3
24. w = 54
25. c = -35

Hope that helps.. :)

14) d = 5 ---> yes
15) c = 4 ---> no
16) c = 85 - 56 = 29 ---> no
17) a = 7
18) a = 16
19) y = -3
20) y = -3
22) g = 6
23) b = -3
24) w = 54
25) c = -35

Hey there!

I'm not going to do all of your homework for you, that would defeat the purpose of homework :) BUT, what I will do is show you how to do one of each type of problem and let you do the rest. Sound cool? Ok!

14. 13 - d = 8 : 5

To do this problem, you have to solve the equation. In other words, you have to find the value of the variable, d. In order to do this, you have to isolate d, ie get it alone on its side. To do this, I will "move" all of the other numbers (in this case just the 13) to the other side of the equal sign. Like this:

13 - d = 8

- d = 8 - 13

- d = - 5

d = 5

Our answer agrees with the answer provided by your textbook: awsome!

15. This problem is solved in the same way as 14. I'm sure you can do it now :)

16. The equation I would write for this problem is 56 + c = 85. Why? Well, we are told that the farmer has a total of 85 cows. 56 are out of the barn but we don't know how many are still in the barn, so we will represent those cows by the variable c. The second part of the question asks us to check whether c = 33. To do this, plug in 33 in the equation above. Does 56 + 33 = 85? You get to answer that one :)

17- 25. These problems are very similar to problems 14 and 15 just this time we are not given the solutions to check whether our answer is right. I'll let you figure these ones out too :)
