.. I cant figure out how to solve this problem if someone could show me how to do it step by step I would be grateful.Thanks-If | A | = C,so,X = -2 or X = 1 or X=0 or X = -1would all satisfy the original equation.......

If | A | = C, then A=C or A= -C

so,
| X^2 + X - 1 | = 1 implies

X^2 + X - 1 = 1 or X^2 + X - 1 = -1

X^2 + X -2 = 0 or X^2 +X = 0

(X +2)(X-1) = 0 or X(X+1) = 0

X = -2 or X = 1 or X=0 or X = -1 would all satisfy the original equation.
