My lotion is expired a month, I have never used it, it's been stored in the closet. I was wondering if it's still safe?

Generally yes. Most expiration dates on medications do not coincide with the date the medication suddenly changes and becomes ineffective (or toxic). Usually, the window is up to 2-3 months. Beyond that there is breakdown of the medication and it can be less effective or in some rare cases harmful.
