by (1/2)^10) to get the final answer of 1/1024 of the original amount.-it happens because when mexicans take spagettie and fly on airplanes the sauce comes from tomatoes which is a plant.......
Iodine - 131 = 8.4 days (Half Life)

Q.Many airports now have radiation detectors in order to detect the smuggling of
radioactive materials that may be used in nuclear weapons manufacture. Patients are
warned that, if they choose to travel by air, they may set off radiation detectors up to
12 weeks after their treatment with Iodine-131.
Calculate the fraction of radioactivity due to Iodine-131 remaining after 12 weeks
(84 days).

thank you! I LOOKED IT UP IN THE MARKSCHEME AND SOMEHOW THE ANSWER IS: 1/2^10 or 1/1024 [0⋅09765%] BUT HOW?

-
Well, 84 days is clearly 10 half-lives for Iodine-131, so the amount of iodine there would have halved 10 times. So to find the fraction of the original amount remaining, we multiply it by 1/2 ten times (ie, by (1/2)^10) to get the final answer of 1/1024 of the original amount.
