Tornadoes and mobile homes

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-05-27] [Hit: ]
You cant afford to take risks because a tornado can form in 3 seconds and those mobile homes splinter into a million little toothpicks. You know, I would probably leave anytime the sirens sounded, if I were you.Especially if I had kids.Better safe than sorry,......
The devastation is unbelievable with the tornadoes. What do you do if you live in a mobile home (one that is not tied down, but sitting on blocks) and the siren goes off for a tornado?how do you know if you should get in your car and head directly to the local storm shelter in town (with children) what if your all by yourself with your kids, what do you do and when do you do it? never been in a tornado so that's why I ask

ANY kind of mobile home should be abandoned in the case of a tornado. Keep watching local weather, if they have confirmed a tornado on the ground within 10 miles of your house, you should leave immediately. You can't afford to take risks because a tornado can form in 3 seconds and those mobile homes splinter into a million little toothpicks.

You know, I would probably leave anytime the sirens sounded, if I were you. Especially if I had kids. Better safe than sorry, and really it only happens a couple times a year.

If you have a friend/relative/neighbor who has a storm cellar or basement, make a plan with that person to share the space in emergencies. You might be able to find a good place very close to your home. Our plan is to go 2 blocks to the University of Tulsa english department basement.

Oh, also, you'll need blankets, pillows, flashlight, and a radio. If a tornado is heading your way, wrap yourself and kids in the blankets to protect them from sharp debris, cover your heads with pillows in case walls/roofing falls on you.

Oh my gosh, don't ever stand in the hallway like that person said. You have to get out and lay flat in a ditch, try to wrap yourself up in blankets, etc. You cannot be inside the mobile home. They just about get vaporized in a tornado.

I am in tornado alley (Missouri). I can tell you that mobile homes are not safe but if you find yourself in a sudden situation where maybe you cannot get out of the house... Stand or crouch in a doorway. You best possible bet is to get to underground shelter. Find the closest available storm shelter. You also need to be aware of where there may be one open at night. As soon as a bad storm hits, prepare yourself. One way to know it is close if you are not able to tell by the clouds and other observations is HAIL. Hail almost ALWAYS comes within minutes of a tornado. Now also realize that hail does not AWLAYS mean a tornado is imminent. Another way to tell is use your computer. Google - National Weather Service (then tyoe your city) and go to the site - it will post warnings that will include your city and then you know to seek shelter! Be safe out there and best wishes.

If you live in a mobile home or trailer and severe weather such as straight-line winds or a tornado is imminent, please leave the mobile home/trailer and seek sturdier shelter such as a house or building. Mobile homes and trailers offer NO safety even if they are strapped down. If you can not find a sturdier shelter, lay flat in a low lying ditch or culvert.

A mobile home is NOT somewhere you want to be during a tornado. So if you know there is a severe weather threat for your area, have yourself and your kids ready to go. And any time the siren sounds, leave. Better safe than sorry.
