Why do planets have gravity?......

Why do planets have gravity?

-------------------------------------------------------

answers:
aladdinwa say: Because they have mass. All massive objects have gravity.

How mass causes gravity has not yet been determined, and is probably the question you really wanted to ask, in the first place.
-
The Donald say: Because they have mass.
-
goring say: Gravity is a phenomenon that is not exactly understood. Even Einstein did not exactly explicate the mechanism of Gravity
Planets don't produce gravity; it is rather Gravity that produces the planets in the shape that we observe.
-
nineteenthly say: Because mass warps space and this prevents objects from moving unimpeded in straight lines.
-
Ronald 7 say: Because of Mass
The more Mass it has, the higher the Gravity it has
Jupiter is not only the most Massive Planet in our Solar System
But is has the Greatest Gravity too, as well as producing the most Radiation
All the Outer Planets have enough Gravity to host numerous moons
Even Tiny Pluto
The whole Family Orbits the Sun
-
hoarseman say: Gravity is one of the many things we can quantitatively describe -- but the "what" eludes us
-
Jeffrey K say: All matter attracts all other matter by gravity. It is too weak to feel unless there is a lot of matter like in a planet.
No one knows why matter has gravity.
-
Clive say: Because everything that has mass creates gravity just by existing. It is an inherent property of anything that has mass. Including your own body. But it's quite a weak force so for something to have measurable gravity that attracts other things to it, it needs to be pretty heavy. Like a planet or a star.

Now if you're asking why there is gravity, nobody knows - yet! It just IS something that goes with having mass.
-
Matt say: DAT mASS
-
βεи say: Gravity is what holds the planets in orbit around the sun and what keeps the moon in orbit around Earth. The gravitational pull of the moon pulls the seas towards it, causing the ocean tides. Gravity creates stars and planets by pulling together the material from which they are made.
-
Riley say: As far as I know there are two ideas. Mass folds space around it according to Einstein which causes smaller massive objects to fall around (orbit) bigger massive objects. Another idea is the electron nuclear force is attractive because of the energy and movement of electrons. The more electrons (mass) you have the more gravity. (The nucleus of atoms tend to attract electrons which may cause gravity). This is just a hypothesis I heard, so I don't know if it's true or not. But we do know all matter has gravity.
-
Snowwie888 say: Because of their mass. And the mass bends space so that other objects with less mass will fall towards it. This falling process we call 'gravity'. But if you keep enough speed around this massive object you can orbit it. Like the ISS is orbiting the Earth. Like the Earth is orbiting the Sun.
-
sparrow say: They have been trying to figure that out. It's not well understood.
The theory is that something with a large mass, like a planet, bends space-time around it, and the
bent, warped space now pulls you in.
-
Zac Z say: As others have said, planets' gravity is caused by their mass. Everything that has mass, has gravity.
Mass effectively is that charge of the gravitational force. The difference to electric charges is that there's only one type of charge which is cumulative, whereas electric charges can be positive and negative and usually cancel each other out on the macro level.
-
Nikki say: i believe that "mass" has gravity. einstein's theory was tested by "gravity probe B".
-
say: They don't. The earth is flat.
-
poldi2 say: Mass. All objects with mass have gravity - a car, an elephant, an asteroid, and a planet.
-
Bill-M say: All Mass has gravity. You have Gravity.
-
jcastro say: Because of their mass. Gravity is a force of attraction between masses, as shown by

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton%27s...
-
Henry say: Which ones are the planets. They are cgi and lights in the sky.
-
Zardoz say: No one knows. We have a description of gravity but not an understanding of it. Knowing their mass allows us to calculate how much a body will warp space. Knowing the distribution of the mass allows us to calculate the shape of that warpage. But we know not the mechanism of how.
-
CarolOklaNola say: Planets and stars have gravity be cause they have MASS. Gravity is a for e, Pressure is a force. Gravity pulls. Pressure pushes. Gravity DOES NOT "suck."

WHY gravity and mass exist WE DO NOT KNOW. THOSE are different questions.
-
Acetek say: becuase they have mass and they have mass because of the Higgs Field and Higgs Boson
