The Sun will not swallow earth in 5 Billion years?
Such an event is impossible without interference of humans.

answers:
Pearl L say: hopefully it wont but theres no way of knowing that for sure

poldi2 say: In about 5 billion years, the sun will begin the helium-burning process, turning into a red giant star. When it expands, its outer layers will consume Mercury and Venus, and possibly the Earth.
If it doesn't engulf the Earth at that time, friction with the sun's expanded atmosphere will cause the Earth to spiral into the sun.

Why would you think that is impossible, when scientists have observed this in other star systems.
-
CarolOklaNola say: What made YOU God? Grown ups DO NOT know everything. Humans were not around when the Sun and planets were created and will not be around when the Sun becomes a red giant, then a white dwarf.
-
MARK say: The Sun does have ca. 5 x 10^9 (5 thousand million, or 5 billion if you are North American) years give or take a few.

Humans have nothing to do with it. The events that will happen as our Sun goes through its dying process requires no input from humans and there will be nothing we can do to stop it.

It is not something that I shall worry about. In the unlikely event humans are extant at the time any descendants shall be so many generations in front I cannot possibly care. By a very rough calculation there will be 17777 MORE generations after us if humans are still extant than there have been generations before us.

Buddy say: Wrong

marty say: Earth will become uninhabitable much sooner than that. After about a billion years the sun will become hot enough to boil our oceans. The sun is currently classified as a “main sequence” star.
-
Morningfox say: Interesting thought. Do you have some more details? Like some analysis of how large the sun will be in 5 billion years, and how much frictional drag the Earth will experience in the sun's outer layers? Do you just want to say that it will not happen in 5 billion years, but will happen in maybe 7.6 billion years?
-
KennyB say: Humans will have nothing to do with it - except to be witness (f they are still around) to the death throes of a small star.
-
say: It’s not like any human life will live past the next hundred years
-
Gray Bold say: The Sun does not have enough mass to explode as a supernova. Instead it will exit the main sequence in approximately 5 billion years and start to turn into a red giant. As a red giant, the Sun will grow so large that it will engulf Mercury, Venus, and probably Earth.

Pearl L say: hopefully it wont but theres no way of knowing that for sure
-
Acetek say: you sure have been posting a lot of nonsense stuff lately. you should go over to the religion & spirituality section. you would fit right in
