The nucleus is also U shaped-The five I assume youre speaking of are the innate branch: macrophages, neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, and mast cells.1.......
4. Describe how to visually differentiate the five white blood cells.

-
Neutrophil = Only one with a multi-lobed (2-6) nucleus, also has a pretty lilac colored cytoplasm

Eosinophil = Has a 2 lobed nucleus that is red or dark pink and has red granules in the cytoplasm (eosin means red)

Basophil = The cell has dark black granules everywhere (baso means base which stains cells blue)

Lymphocyte = About the same size as a RBC and has a singe nucleus that is soooo big it seems to take over

Monocyte = The biggest of all white blood cells, it could fit probably 4 red blood cells in it. The nucleus is also U shaped

The five I assume you're speaking of are the innate branch: macrophages, neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, and mast cells.

By visual differentiation the easiest ways are:
1.) Macrophages are amoebic in appearance with pseudopodia projecting from the cell membrane.
2.) Neutrophils have a multi-lobed nucleus. Their alternative name is PMN leukocyte which stands for polymorphonuclear leukocyte alluding to their mult-shaped nucleus.
3.) Eosinophils when stained properly are reddish-orange in appearance.
4.) Basophils and mast cells are both purple in appearance when dyed but basophils have larger nuclei and granules.
