Subtract bx on both sides so the equation is a=dx+c-bx.
Then subtract c on both sides so you get a-c=dx-bx.
Factor out the x on the right side making a-c=x(d-b).
Then divide (d-b) on both sides giving you

x=(a-c)/(d-b)
