Inequality question?!

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-09-02] [Hit: ]
1.2.So you are correct, but rememner x is less than or equal to 10/3. To graph it: draw a vertical line at x=10/3, and shade everything to the left of it.......
The problem is 6x - 4 < or equal to 16

I got 10/3...which I'm not sure is right.
Also, how would I be able graph this?

and how to do two step inequalities like

1. 12 < or equal to 3x + 6 < or equal to 24

2. 2x + 5 < 3x +9 < x + 21

Below ==> means "therefore" and <= means "less than or equal to"

6x - 4 <= 16
==> 6x <= 20
==> x <= 10/3

So you are correct, but rememner x is less than or equal to 10/3. To graph it: draw a vertical line at x=10/3, and shade everything to the left of it. Usually you make the vertical line solid (rather than dotted) to indicate "less than or equal" rather than "less than".

Number one you can do all at once, but you can't always do that:
12 <= 3x + 6 <= 24
==> 6 <= 3x <= 18 .... just subtract 6 from all parts
==> 2 <= x <= 6 .... divide all parts by 3.
That's your answer. i.e. x is both greater than or equal to 2, and less than or equal to 6.

The last one contains different number of x's, so you need to solve each inequality separately:
2x + 5 < 3x + 9
==> 0 < x + 4
==> -4 < x

3x + 9 < x + 21
==> 2x < 12
==> x < 6
So putting it together: -4 < x < 6

EDIT: Corrected the middle one. Thanks to other answerer

As I know...

1) 12<3x+6< 24

12-6<3x<24-6 (solve both equation together)

6<3x<18/3 ( Divide whole equation by 3)

2
2) 2x+5<3x+9
2x+5-9<3x
2x-4<3x
-4
