Metric conversion stair chart thing

When I was in sixth grade I remember my math teacher drawing a stair and putting on it kg, g, mg etc in order from biggest to smaller and then g would be in the middle I think and you would multiply or divide depending on your conversion if it was to the left or right... anyone has any idea of what I'm talking about and could you please give me the chart? thanks
